On hold

I did a clean up of my alts and Calli has gone back into the Emerald dream, where she’s probably going to be bitten by a werewolf type thingy and re-emerge somewhere near a certain wall in around eleven months.

It wasn’t just the news about the Xpac though, I’ve been jumping between Calli and Briar (my rogue) since 3.2 came out and its a mistake to level a cat and a rogue at the same time, you see how much of a poor mans copy of a rogue a kitty is.

The rogue has a 20 level head start on abilities and so many more animations  to go with their attacks. I know perceived wisdom is getting cat form at level 20 is when the ‘fun’ starts with a druid but I don’t see it.

The gap between mage and balance exsists as well only it never felt as  wide as between rogue & kitty. At low levels because I can root, nuke & heal  the playing style is different to a mage but not sub -par in the way it feels it is between kitty and rogue.  I do think some of its down to the  order in which druids receive their abilities,  Balance & resto abilities come early, (though the forms later) bear and cat have  to wait for the forms & then start acquiring abilities.

Blizzard have said they’re redoing talent trees in Cataclysm and possibly moving around when classes get some abilities. I doubt they’ll do anything as drastic as switch  the levels when you get  cat and bear forms but it would certainly help given cat is the melee  levelling option much more so than bear. They’ve also said new quests and hinted at new class specific ones (lets face it for all classes a lot of the current ones are obsolete now) so we may be seeing Cat Spirit finally getting something to do beyond prowling Moonglade. Its all of the proposed or hinted at changes  not just the option to play Worgen that had me rethink levelling a second druid now. (Because I know I’d want to level one post Cataclysm to try out the new stuff anyway).

No more Pink Lollipop!

We were in Black Temple on Wednesday and Highlord Naj’entus kindly deigned to drop The Maelstom’s Fury. It’s stats are similar the the Pink Lollipop but +crit rather than +hit. I need to enchant it and can only use it for raids where we have an elemental shaman (or an S:Priest after 3.0.2), but at least I won’t be running around Northrend with the pink lollipop for six more levels.

This does rather leave me wondering what I’m going to do with 149 badges of justice, I was saving them for the Scryers Blade of Focus, which for stats & raw damage is still better than either the lollipop or the Fury but +crit means more mana regen. I may visit the badge vendor after 3.0.2 goes live and see whether spellpower makes some of the healing gear more attractive.

Personal choice is still to have a staff. Moonkins look silly with one hand maces & daggers, but Blizz seem to have decided that main hand, off hand is the way to go for dps casters

People seem to be convinced that the 3.0.2 patch is coming next week

Part of me hopes they’re wrong. Dax is still only level 69 (one bubble of XP earned) she’s been sidelined the last few weeks so I could play on the beta. When I do jump on her its to grind herbs in preperation for Inscription. And I’ve just found out that the requirements have increased.

Banana Shoulders has just updated her inscription levelling guide with the new amounts.

To power level Ari to 350 inscription I’m going to need around 1.3k herbs, As of the last count I have 750 (and not all in neat stacks of 5 for milling). So this weekend its grinding more herbs. Poor Dax is currently running circuits in STV, thats not going to help her reach 70. Hopefully we’ll get her sorted before WotLK ships but I’m not overly worried if I don’t, she can go to Northrend at 69.

Briarthorn & Kenisha are both twiddling their thumbs. I’m unlikely to seriously play them for a while. Certainly not before WotLK, and probably not until Ari, Dax & my DK reach 80.

Say Hello to…

Briarthorn. My latest alt. I didn’t get Machica to 25, barely made 23, as I kept sloping off to play this little rogue, who is now 20. She’s sleeping at Lakeshire tonight, though why they have a blazing fire in July is beyond me.

Briar is Ari’s kid sister. She used to be a hunter, leveled all the way to 42 over a period of about 2 years then retired to Booty Bay. When Dax flew past her in about four weeks of play (5 days played I think) I deleted her. No point having an unplayed hunter hanging around, only I sort of missed the character so she’s returned as a rogue.

I think its about the fourth rogue I’ve rolled but this time round I’m enjoying it. She managed her level 20 class quest with relative ease.

Yes she died, then wisped to the top of the tower only to discover her lockpicking skills weren’t up to the task so had to go and level them some more before a second attempt. Funny I wasn’t going to do it as I thought the reward was just the thistle tea recipe & she can’t cook, then I discovered she would also get poisons so I thought it worth an attempt or two.

I don’t think Machica will be my third 70. Not saying Briar will either, just find shaman game play somewhat lacking. Maybe it will click at some point. All the pundits say get to 20 then it gets better, but they say that for most classes so I take it with a pinch of salt.

I’m also considering getting Dax a name change to bring her into line with the other *thorns ( there’s a third *thorn holding a name for my Deathknight & a fourth for my banker) we’ll see though I like Daxtari and I’m sure tari is thorn in some language, Darnassian perhaps? Anyway I’ll get Dax to 70 before I decide about name changes.
